ASC provides powerful exhibitions and inspiring programs with exceptional guest experiences that deepen the engagement of all ages in science and science-related disciplines.

Position overview

ASC is expanding its education opportunities here and across the city! We will be providing more outreach programs, STEM labs, and science demonstrations for school groups. Your primary responsibility will focus on presenting these day-to-day educational demonstrations and activities for children from various organizations and schools either at the museum or offsite. This position requires strong communication skills, a commitment to guest experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering and math.

Essential functions

  • Present some school programming at ASC, including but not limited to STEM learning labs and science demonstrations for school groups
  • Assist with outreach programs such as Family STEM events and conference booths
  • Assist with group check-in as needed by orientating students on the bus with rules and wristbands
  • Maintain current knowledge of museum exhibits and program content, including temporary exhibitions and planetarium shows
  • Report maintenance and supply needs for program materials
  • Assist with break camps as needed

  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching
  • An approachable, friendly, enthusiastic personality
  • Strong presentation skills including demonstrated effectiveness working with school groups
  • Ability to effectively engage all students with different learning styles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a STEM related field preferred, but not required.
  • Current college students studying towards education, museum studies, or STEM related field will be given preference.
  • Prior experience working with children and families is preferred.
  • Theatre / improv training or experience with public speaking is a plus.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Availability to work occasional weekends required.

We have six wheelchair-accessible seating spaces available in the Sudekum Planetarium located at the top and bottom of the theater. Please alert a staff member prior to your showtime if you would like to access the spaces at the top of the theater.

The Adventure Science Center internship program is designed to assist students who wish to gain experience in the field of museums and non-profits. Internship opportunities provide a chance for current undergraduate and graduate students to acquire professional and educational skills while working alongside Adventure Science Center staff.
